5 Essentials To Ensuring a Perennial Country Wardrobe
I am often asked what to wear when visiting the Cotswolds. And whilst the ‘country aesthetic’ is certainly having a moment in the fashion world, I find that not all of those looks translate particularly well to real country living.
Of course, we still want to feel chic and look put together, but there are a few key pieces I believe every woman’s country wardrobe should include. From light layers and timeless coats to practical footwear, I’ve rounded up the perfect building blocks for a perennial country wardrobe
A true countryside staple that neither myself or Charlie would be without is a gilet.
Whatever the season, I always find myself reaching for one whether it’s as an extra layer on chilly mornings or simply thrown on to elevate an everyday outfit.
The perfect perennial piece for any country wardrobe is a wax jacket.
An iconic style and true representation of British heritage, the wax jacket never goes out of style. Not only are they hardwearing and age beautifully, but they are perfect for channeling that countryside aesthetic that has now become so popular.
One of my favourite wax jackets was my dads and it’s still has SO much wear left!
A true staple of countryside footwear, no country wardrobe is complete without a good pair of wellington boots!
They are absolutely essential for muddy fields and wet weather and I truly find myself reaching for my wellies more than any other footwear. They’re not just for long walks either. I wear mine in the garden, on quick errands, and even when popping into the village.
*My biggest piece of advice when it comes to wellies is to invest in a good-quality pair. Trust me, no one wants the surprise of a split heel in the middle of a muddy field.
Timeless, elegant and a style rooted in British heritage, you cannot go wrong with a tweed blazer.
Whether you opt for a slightly more tailored and fitted silhouette or prefer a more relaxed fit, you can’t go wrong with this piece. I often find myself throwing one on over the more simplest of outfits to instantly elevate my look when off to the pub for a Sunday lunch.
One thing I always say about country fashion is that comfort should come first!
Of course, I still want to look put together, but if I’m heading out for a long country walk, the last thing I want is to be stuck in a pair of stiff jeans and trying to climb over a stile!
Find yourself a good pair of quality leggings! Not a see through pair that go baggy after a few wears, but a really thick pair that sculpt, keep you warm and look sophisticated. Plus, when styled well with a knit, jacket, or boots, they still look effortlessly put together.
