One of my Favourite Breakfast Hacks: Smoothie Jars

One of my favourite little meal-prep habits is making a batch of smoothie jars to keep in the freezer. My morning smoothies tend to contain quite a few ingredients, and while I love packing them with lots of nutritious extras, getting everything out each morning can quickly become a bit of a faff! Instead, every so often I line up a collection of jars and portion all of my smoothie ingredients into them at once, then pop the whole batch straight into the freezer.

It also means I can add all of those little wellness extras that I might otherwise forget when I’m in a hurry, from collagen powder and açaí powder to creatine and a plethora of nuts and seeds. It makes a nourishing, ingredient-packed smoothie feel almost as quick and convenient as grabbing a pre-made smoothie, and saves me so much time throughout the week.

Apart from the various wellness powders and pantry staples I add to my smoothie jars, I also throw in;

  • Mixed frozen berries
  • Banana
  • Avocado
  • A handful of kale from the kitchen garden
  • Brazil nuts
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Hazelnuts
  • Almonds
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds

When it comes to actually making the smoothie, all I’ve got to do is defrost a smoothie jar, tip it into my blender and blend with a bottle of Daylesford’s organic kefir and a good splash of Rude Health almond milk. I’ll drink half of the smoothie right away and save the other half for the following day in the kefir bottle stored in the fridge.
