3 Scenic Cotswold Walks That Finish with Food Worth Walking For
Arguably the best way to experience the Cotswolds is by taking a long walk through the stunning countryside, wandering through the idyllic villages as you go. Another key way of experiencing the Cotswolds is through the food! The Cotswolds is renowned for it’s world-class produce, so finding a walk that ends at an incredible food spot is a fantastic way to spend the day.
All of the walks that we have to share with you are ones we’ve found through a free app called AllTrails (this is not sponsored, but what a dreamy collaboration that would be!). AllTrails is an app full of incredible walks, not only in The Cotswolds, but across the world. Using the app, you can see loads of walks in your local area, and the app tracks your walk as you go, making navigation a breeze.
The Adlestrop & Daylesford Circular
The Adlestrop & Daylesford walk starts in the adorable village of Adlestrop, which is only a short drive from Daylesford Farm shop. You can park in the public carpark within the village, and head off from there. If you’re into history, be sure to take a look at the vintage railway sign in the centre of the village. The main reason we love this walk is because it passes through Daylesford Estate – the home of Carole Bamford, the founder and owner of Daylesford farm shop and the Bamford brand. It’s such fun to have a speak peek at Daylesford House, and Carole’s private horse stables. Make sure to stick to the public footpaths though – it’s important to remember that this is someone’s private home.
Towards the end of the walk, you’ll reach the village of Lower Oddington, where you can stop at The Fox at Oddington for lunch. The walk is over 8 kilometres in total, and takes around 2hr15 to complete, so some refreshment along the way is very much welcome. The Fox at Oddington is one of our favourite local pubs due to it’s stunning interiors, the wonderful food, and very friendly staff. If you’re stopping by mid-week, we’d recommend sampling their delicious wood-fire pizzas. If you’re stopping by on a Sunday, you’ll be in for a treat with their incredible Sunday roasts! Be sure to book a table in advance as they tend to get very booked up.
Great Tew & Little Tew Circular
Another incredible walk that we found on Alltrails is the Great Tew & Little Tew Circular. Park in the public carpark in Great Tew and set off through one of the most beautiful historic villages you’ll ever come across. Packed full of Cotswold stone cottages and plenty of thatched roofs, a walk through Great Tew feels like stepping back in time. This walk is 6km in total and takes around 1hr30. You’ll pass through the equally beautiful village of Little Tew, and will spot some incredible landscapes and stunning houses along the way, stopping at Quince & Clover in Great Tew for a bite to eat at the end. If arriving at breakfast or brunch time, be sure to sample their incredible breakfast baps. If picking from the lunch menu, we’d recommend trying one of their incredible hot-pots; they’re hearty, packed full of flavour, and also very nutritious to boot!
Ilmington Circular
Another of our favourite local walks is the Ilmington Circular. As you can guess from the name, this walk starts and ends in the sleepy village of Ilmington. Ilmington is in the north-west tip of the Cotswolds, and this is a great area to explore if you like to get off the beaten track.
If you’re anything like us, you’ll love walking through the village and admiring the adorable cottages as you go. You can gather so much inspiration for your own home as you walk; from front door colours to front garden planting plans. Most of this walk is spent walking through farmland, but half way into this walk you come upon a spectacular manor house called Foxcote House, which is rumoured to be owned by Leslie Wexner, the owner of Victoria’s Secret.
At the very end of the walk, you’ll reach The Howard Arms – a cosy country pub that serves delicious pub classics such as fish & chips, and an excellent burger, which you could follow with a scrumptious sticky toffee pudding. Go on, you’ve earned it!
